Westies are independent, assured, and confident, basically a big dog in a little body.

They are a loyal breed that bonds with its owner and are highly social and friendly.

The West Highland White Terrier or "Westie" as they are affectionately known, have been recognised as a breed for over 100 years. Westies possess the classic terrier temperament; they are active, alert, game and full of self-importance. They are not a dog that needs pampering, this hardy breed enjoys scampering in all weathers and will follow its owners just about anywhere. They are extremely faithful but do have a stubborn streak, early training is therefore essential.

Looking for a puppy?

Here's the do's and don'ts:

Do go and visit multiple breeders.
Don't buy a puppy from a pet shop.
Do meet the parents (many breeders will only have the mother).
Don't buy a puppy online.
Do make sure the breeder is registered with their state kennel association.
Do be wary of someone who won't let you visit them and offers to deliver the puppy to you.
Don't support puppy mills.
